Japan's suicide rate nears record high

Japan is still a spiritually poor country. Please remember our dear Japanese friends in your prayers.

It is interesting to note, where atheism reigns so does suicide and abortion.

I wonder how Japan compares in terms of suicides to European countries? Unlike Europe, which is often outright hostile to Christianity, Japan seems merely indifferent. But it does seem like there's a lot of potential to witness to the people of Japan who are hurting and considering suicide that hasn't (as far as I know) been realized.

Lithuania seems to be the highest in the world. I was there on a short-term mission trip in 1998. They were not hostile to Christianity, although the vast majority were obviously atheists. At that time they seemed somewhat open, although hesitant to talk - probably in a carry-over fear of the KGB. It seems also that colder countries (physically darker countries), tend to have higher suicide rates. Japan is a clear exception to that rule!

How about a "Chritian" country like America that has the most violence in the industrialized world?

Mr. B,

I'm glad you brought this up. America, as you know, is definitely not a "Christian" country. I notice a lot more brashness, disrespect and violence in America also. I wonder if it is because Americans have had to more violently reject God from their thoughts in order to get by. (There are a lot more Christians in America than in Japan.) What do you think?
